Hi everyone and happy new year. We just got back from a little walk and I thought I would share a few photos from our new years morning in Japan. Hannah's sister Melissa is here now to help with baby, only trouble is that baby is not here yet. We are still waiting for baby to be born. Please pray that baby will come soon because Melissa is suppose to leave on Friday and she really want's to meet baby.

Yesterday my wife and her sister and I went for a little drive to the top of Mt. Kinka in Gifu city to see the view. We could see pretty far because the weather was good, it's been so cloudy the last few day and we haven't been able to see very far.

Fixing a lens

So the other day a guy came into school with a Canon lens that he had dropped into a lake and was all cloudy looking. He was told by Canon that it would cost about 200 bucks to fix but the same lens new only cost about $250. He didn't want to pay to have it fixed so he said I could do whatever I wanted to it. I got the lens open by bending some paper clips and a ruler. Then I had to take the entire thing apart with all these little screws and things. But I was able to clean the inside of the lens and now it's as good as new. I gave the lens back to the guy yesterday and he was so happy.

iPhone coming to Japan soon

Some news that got me excited this morning is that the iPhone is on it's way to Japan. Of corse we all knew that it was coming we just didn't know how soon. And of corse when it comes to Japan it will be a 3G version which will boast much faster data access and probably make the US and European iPhone users a little envious. Many people are saying that the iPhone is not going to make much of a splash here because of how high-tech Japan already is but I the iPhone is going to go big here. Nobody thought the iPod would be all that big here about 5 years ago but now it's got over half the market of music players.

Dinner with Koichi Inakoshi

As I posted on my other blog I had the chance to meet Inakoshi Koichi a few days ago. After his presentation at the school we went to Takayama to have dinner with him. We went to a super nice Japanese restaurant and met some other high ups from other schools. It was very nice and I felt a bit out of place but still had a great time.

Tyler, this is for you. I went to Takayama the other day with a some friends and we stayed at the "Alpha 1" hotel. It's just a small business hotel but the name made me laugh.

Radiohead has a new album

Radiohead, one of my favorite bands just released a new album last week and they didn't use a record company. They released the albumit themselves and it's only available on there site www.inrainbows.com. I heard that they sold over 200,000 albums in the first 2 days. This is a huge success for the artist and probably a scary thing for the record company.

I shot a cool event yesterday in Hashima City. The event is called なまず祭り of "Catfish Festival" in English. Everything was good except I could not get any photos of the kids because there were too many parents with cameras trying to get video of their kids. So I took a few photos of the parents because it was so ridiculous. Enjoy.

They found a use for the Zoon

I found this photo the other day and it made me laugh. If you were following the Apple iPod vs. Microsoft Zune thing at all you will understand. If you like many others out there didn't know, Microsoft did make a supposed "iPod killer" called "Zoon". Only trouble is that it sucks big time and no one bought it. I have always been an iPod fan since day one with the old 5 gig manual touch wheel. I bought my first iPod about a month after then came out back in 2001.

The photo was from a Costco where apparently they needed a pallet to set the new iPods on and used the Zoon one.

Today my wife and I went to the Seibu Yochien [Kindergarden] where she teaches English to see the sports day. In the US we would call it a field day. Lots of kids and moms and dads behind cameras.

So today my wife and I went shopping at some second hand shops in Gifu City. In Japan they call them "Recycle Shops". Anyway we went to about four of them and we ended up finding this really cool table that we like. Here are a few pics of it. It's probably the nicest looking thing in our house. And it looks excellent with my PowerBook and iPod sitting on it. That's my random post for today.
